Next Installment of Batman

September 9, 2008

Dark Knight.

Now that everyone is nice and lubricated, here’s a short article on MTV.com that mentions the possible cast memebers for the next  Batman.  In short:

Johnny Depp = The Riddler

Philip Seymour Hoffman = Penguin

I’d just like to say that I loved Jim Carrey in Batman Forever. However, I’m not a big comic book fan, so I didn’t care what he brought as the Riddler, but just as him. Yep. I’m a Carrey fan.

That said. Johnny Depp… <3

‘Nuff said.

Discuss.

Pixar has done it again…and an Art Show

June 27, 2008

I am pleased to say, not that I have ever doubted them, that Pixar has done it again. Wall E is AMAZING. Great film for numerous reasons. It’s noticeable that they tried a lot of new things in terms of their CG abilites and film making. I went to the midnight showing yesterday and wasn’t let down. The short film before it was just as amazing. Probably their best yet. It’s called Presto. If you look it up, there’s a clip of it floating around the internet. Bottom line. Wall E. See it.

Earlier yesterday, I went to an art show at the urban vinyl toy store known to many as Munky King, on Melrose. The artwork displayed was awesome, the artists were really really cool, giving out free commissions, and the vinyl toys were great as usual. It was the release of a lot of new lines of toys.

A coupla weeks back, the American Film Institute posted the ten greatest films in ten classic genres. Here are three of those lists:

Science Fiction

2001: A Space Oddysey (number one)
Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope
E.T. — The Extra Terrestrial
A Clockwork Orange
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Blade Runner
Alien
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Back to the Future

Fantasy

The Wizard of Oz (number one)
The Lord of the Rings
It’s a Wonderful Life
King Kong
Miracle on 34th street
Field of Dreams
Harvey
Groundhog Day (AWESOOOME!!!)
The Thief of Bagdad
Big

Epic

Lawrence of Arabia (number one)
Ben-hur
Schindler’s List
Gone with the Wind
Spartacus
All Quiet on the Western Front
Saving Private Ryan
Reds
The Ten commandments

The rest can be viewed here. That’s all well and good, but they didn’t include a list for the horror genre! How do you compile a list of the best movies of the best genres and not include Horror?!?

So here’s my list of Top Ten Horror Films…

The Exorcist (number one)
Poltergheist
The Thing
The Sixth Sense
Bram Stoker’s Dracula
The Shining
Night of the Living Dead
It
The Blair Witch Project
The Ring

These are my personal choices. If you don’t agree, you are wrong.

At Long Last

June 20, 2008

Finally, the feeling of not feeling guilty when you’re not doing work. Yes, I’m on vacation but that usually doesn’t mean anything. My vacations up to this point have only either been one week long or three weeks long. NOW, I get a whole month! Not sure why, but I’m not complaining. Some BS regarding leap year or whatever. It’s kind of sad how I’m marveling over a whole month of vacation while other people’s normal vacations are at least 3 months long. But, I’m happy nonetheless.

Big summer for Movies. Plenty of good ones that have and are coming out. Some of the ones that I’ve seen already are:

Iron Man (pretty good. better than I thought it would be)

Kung Fu Panda (probably the only feature animation done in 3D that i actually liked other then the Pixar films. It’s about time these fools got it right.)

The Incredible Hulk (pretty good as well. better than I thought it would be. complete redemption from the other one by Broke Back Director.)

The movies that are coming out and I’m looking forward to seeing.

Hellboy 2 (want to see Del Toro’s take)

The Dark Knight (finally, someone does Batman right. after how many tries? thank you, Christopher Nolan. RIP to Heath Ledger. Judging from the trailers, he does an amazing job as Joker. Died on my birthday.)

Wall E (Pixar movie. Enough said.)

Others that I’m looking forward to later on either in the year or the next to come. Practically just the miller films right now.

The Spirit

Watchmen

See any good movies latley?

Bioshock On The Big Screen?

June 8, 2008

For those of you who don’t know Bioshock, die. No, really. Bioshock is an FPS game that came out toward the end of 2007 and shocked many with its incredible cinematic story telling. Its engaging and immersing story line coupled with it’s great graphics, sound, and game play made it one of the best, if not the best, single player FPS of 2007. If you haven’t played it, GET IT.

Over the last month, it was confirmed that Bioshock will, in fact, be made into a movie. It will be directed by Gore Verbinski. Some of the films directed by Verbinski include the Pirates of The Carribean Trilogy, The Mexican, and The Ring. The movie is set to be rated-R to stay true to the violence and gore in the game.

For those who want the full story: Joystiq Confirms Bioshock Movie

I must say, I’m a little skeptical because of the reputation that movies get when adapted from games. The only decent movie(non-CG) adaptation of games that I can think of is Silent Hill, and maybe Resident Evil, and that’s stretching it; however, I do think that Rapture, or Bioshock’s world, would make a very good setting for a movie. It will be difficult to make a first-person masterpiece into a third-person storytelling experience, but there’s always hope. I am looking forward to it, but I won’t be getting my hopes up too much. Technology has come a long way, and I’m hoping that they can utilize it to its fullest to bring out a real masterpiece.
